Moscow. September 3. INTERFAX-The United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) plans to build a large series of multi-purpose nuclear submarines of the Yasen-M project equipped with cruise missiles, USC head Alexey Rakhmanov said in an interview with Interfax on Friday.
"In May, we handed over to the Navy the lead nuclear submarine with cruise missiles of the Yasen-M project - Kazan. This is the future of the Russian submarine fleet, we expect that the Ash Trees will make up a large series that will reliably protect not only the country's borders, but also its interests on the world stage, " Rakhmanov said.
The Yasen-M multipurpose nuclear submarines of the 885M project-carriers of Onyx and/or Kalibr cruise missiles belong to the fourth generation. It was reported about plans to arm them with hypersonic missiles "Zircon".
On May 7, the Kazan multi-purpose submarine, which is the main one in the Yasen-M project, was accepted into the combat structure of the Russian Navy. "Kazan" was launched in 2017, the deadline for completing its tests was repeatedly postponed.
"The Kazan submarine is a dangerous hunter capable of performing various combat tasks. And the submarine cruisers of the Yasen-M project as a whole are the ships that will be followed by the further development of the submarine fleet. They have completely new qualities: their tactical and technical characteristics have been improved, new developments have been implemented in optimizing physical fields, weapon control systems, and maneuverability properties. These are the ships of the twenty-first century. After joining the Navy, they will become the most elusive and dangerous nuclear submarines, "Mikhail Budnichenko, the head of Sevmash JSC, said in May.
