For the first time, the Russian Defense Ministry will test combat robots of the Uran-9 family in real conditions. The robots will guard special objects and fight with the drones of a conditional enemy at the Zapad-2021 exercises. This is reported by Izvestia, citing a source in the Russian Defense Ministry.
Sources of the publication noted that the decision on the use of combat robots has already been made. The task of the vehicles will be to protect the field infrastructure — warehouses, command posts and other objects. The robot's optoelectronic systems will allow detecting the enemy for its further destruction.
Also, "Uran-9" will complement the means of air defense. The robot will detect unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and shoot them down or transmit data about the target to air defense systems.
The source of the publication added that the Zapad-2021 exercises will allow making a decision on the role of combat robots on the battlefield and the units in which these complexes will work. In August, a unit equipped with Uran-9 robots was involved in exercises at the Mulino training ground in the Nizhny Novgorod region. Then the machines were used for the first time in combat formations when conducting defense, the Ministry of Defense noted.
In January, the Zvezda TV channel published a video entitled "Wars of the Future", which tells about the use of multifunctional robotic complexes"Uran-9".
It is known from open sources that the Uran-9 combat robotic complex is being developed by the 776th Department of Production and Technological Equipment. The vehicle on a tracked chassis received a combat module with a 30 mm caliber 2A72 cannon and a 7.62 mm Kalashnikov tank upgraded machine gun (PKTM). They are complemented by four anti-tank guided missiles (ATGM) "Ataka". Such an arsenal allows you to fight with the enemy's manpower and equipment-including low-flying air targets.
