Work is underway to radically improve both the combat and operational characteristics of the product, said Fanil Ziyatdinov, General Director of the Kupol plant

MOSCOW, September 1. /TASS/. Izhevsk Electromechanical Plant "Kupol "(as part of the Almaz-Antey Aerospace Defense Concern) is working to modernize and improve all the main characteristics of the Tor anti-aircraft missile system (SAM). This was reported to TASS by the general director of the enterprise Fanil Ziyatdinov.

"Thor" has been improving continuously since its appearance. Since 2013, the work on the modernization of the Tor family of air defense systems has been carried out directly by Kupol by the factory design bureaus in close cooperation with leading specialized research institutes. Work is underway to radically improve all the main characteristics of the product - both combat and operational, " he said at the Army-2021 international military-technical forum held in the Moscow region.

This year, at the forum, Kupol presented a large number of full-scale samples of its products, among them the Tor-E2, Tor-A and Tor-M2KM air defense systems, as well as a new promising air defense system - the universal target training complex "Adjutant".

The Kupol plant is a research and production enterprise, the head not only for the production, but also for the development of the Tor short-range air defense system. The newest representative of this family is the "Tor-M2", which has been supplied to the Russian troops since 2016. The complex is produced in the Arctic version of the "Tor-M2DT", the first machines of this type have already begun to arrive to the military.

"Tor-M2" is designed to cover important administrative facilities, the first echelons of land formations from anti-radar and cruise missile strikes, planning aerial bombs, airplanes, helicopters and unmanned aerial vehicles. The complex consists of 16 vertical launch anti-aircraft missiles with a range of up to 12 km and an altitude range of up to 10 km. The upgraded locator is able to detect aircraft created using the technology of reducing radar visibility.
