The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has signed a contract with Antonov State Enterprise for the purchase of three An-178-100R aircraft in December 2020, Defense Express reports. The contract implies the transfer of the first aircraft to the customer in the first half of 2023.
The AN-178 transport aircraft was developed on the basis of the AN-158 passenger aircraft. In 2015, the first flight of the aircraft took place, and in February 2021, the State Aviation Service of Ukraine excluded the An-178 from the state register of civil aircraft. This decision was due to the fact that the aircraft did not have a certificate of airworthiness for two years.
