About 80% of the onboard systems of the Russian segment of the International Space Station (ISS) have run out of resources, with the full development of the resource, irreparable failures may begin. This was announced on Tuesday, August 31, by the general designer of the rocket and space corporation Energia, the head of the flight of the Russian segment of the ISS, cosmonaut, twice Hero of the Soviet Union Vladimir Solovyov.
"About a month ago, a council of chief designers was held, at which all the chief designers of the onboard systems of the Russian segment of the ISS, their opponents, made detailed reports for four hours. According to the results of the meeting, it became clear that about 80% of the onboard systems of the Russian segment have exhausted their resource, and it follows that literally the next day after the systems have fully exhausted their resource, irreparable failures can begin," he told RIA Novosti.
According to him, in this situation, system developers will not be held responsible.
"The operating organization is responsible, that is, we are RSC Energia," he said.
In addition, Solovyov noted that in this regard, after 2025, a serious replacement of the main onboard systems of the station will be required.
A day earlier, the head of the press service of the state corporation Roscosmos, Vladimir Ustimenko, said that the situation with the safety and operability of the ISS for the period up to 2025 is under control. At the same time, Ustimenko noted that the state of the Russian and American segments of the ISS is constantly analyzed by specialists.
On August 30, it was reported that cosmonauts found new non-penetrating cracks in the first and oldest module "Zarya" of the ISS during the survey of the Russian segment of the station. Vladimir Solovyov expressed concern that the cracks in the" Dawn " may gradually spread, since before that, through cracks were discovered in the Zvezda module.
