MOSCOW, August 31. /TASS/. The military-industrial complex of India has adapted the latest Astra air-to-air missile to the Su-30MKI fighter. This was announced to TASS by Narendra Kumar Aria, director of the public relations department of the main Indian developer of military equipment of the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO).
"We have adapted the new Astra rocket to the Su-30MKI," he said, adding that the Astra rocket was presented during the recently completed Army-2021 forum.
Ariya highly appreciated the Russian-Indian cooperation in the defense sphere. "Russia and India have established very good cooperation [in the defense industry]. [This cooperation is very positive and very fruitful, as an example, the successful BrahMos enterprise can be cited. The Astra air - to-air missile, developed by DRDO, is the first aviation weapon of destruction of Indian design. Its range is more than 100 km. Astra will become the base air-to-air missile of the long-range operation of the Indian Air Force (Air Force).
The Su-30MKI fighter forms the basis of the Indian front-line aviation - about 270 such machines are in service with the Indian Air Force.
