The Army-2021 Forum has completed its work, but the analysis and understanding of what was shown in its framework will continue for a long time.
One of the soft, but very important presentations is the creation of a digital model of a gas turbine engine for Navy warships. It is notable for the fact that the university science took the most active part in this work.
According to Alexey Borovkov, Vice-Rector for Digital Transformation of Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, such a project is being implemented in Russia for the first time. The digital model will help to reduce the design time of marine gas turbine engines of a new generation and its cost. The "smart" twin will minimize the cost of manufacturing prototypes of power plants, the test process itself, and help manage the product life cycle. This will increase the reliability and commercial attractiveness of Russian offshore gas turbine engines.
"This will be a basic model that will allow you to quickly create new instances based on the digital platform. The work is distinguished by high productivity. Digitizing the product means reducing the time and cost of creating marine gas turbine engines. We can say that today this is our flagship project, " said Alexey Borovkov.
The customer of the digital "copy" of the M90FR marine gas turbine engine is the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia. In partnership with UEC JSC, the project is being implemented by specialists of the Computer Engineering Center, a key division of the SPbPU NTI Center. The work on the state order is designed for four stages. The project is planned to be completed by October 2023.
A digital double is a "smart" high-precision mathematical model of a product that helps to predict the durability and service life of various structural elements at different stages of creation.
In the future, the M90FR should become the basic marine gas turbine engine for the domestic fleet. "Last year, the UEC delivered two engines for the Admiral Golovko frigate. The third unit is also ready and will be used on the frigate "Admiral Isakov". The fourth unit for the same ship is currently being tested. UEC has also developed a modification of the M90FR engine for installation on corvettes of the 20386 project, "the press service of the Engineering and Innovation project of the Industrial Project Management Center explained.
