The systems of the Russian segment of the International Space Station (ISS) are in a high degree of wear, said the general designer of the rocket and space corporation Energia, cosmonaut Vladimir Solovyov, RIA Novosti writes .
According to him, manufacturers of equipment for the station do not give guarantees that after 2025 the equipment will not start to fail. The cosmonaut added that he reported on this situation in the Russian part of the ISS in 2020 at the Council of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Further, this issue was discussed at the council of the Military-Industrial Commission, where none of those present gave a guarantee that the station's equipment would not fail after 2025, " the expert stressed.
Solovyov is sure that experts only hope in words that nothing will break. When it comes to signatures under the document, they refuse to sign. "We have been warning for many years that it is time to think about a new orbital station," he stressed.
Earlier it became known that the astronauts found new cracks in the Russian segment of the ISS. They appeared on the oldest, the first of the Zarya module put into operation.
