Vladimir Koshlakov, General Director of the Keldysh Research Center, which is part of Roscosmos, told about the tests of the latest technology for the disposal of especially dangerous municipal waste and industrial waste using plasma torches. His words are quoted by TASS .
Koshlakov said that the center has developed plasma torches and is now working on creating a special installation that will allow neutralizing and disposing of aggressive household waste of increased danger.
Plasma torches can produce gases whose temperature ranges from four to five thousand degrees Celsius. As a rule, they are used in the rocket industry, but they can also be used for incineration of garbage. In addition, the gases released during combustion are proposed to be used to rotate the turbines of plasma torches.
Conversations about the use of plasma torches for waste incineration have been going on for almost a year. In September 2020, Koshlakov said that the company was negotiating the introduction of such technologies with the authorities of Nizhny Novgorod.
