KUBINKA (Moscow region) 28 Aug-RIA Novosti. Russian scientists have developed a hydrometeorological drone for the Navy that moves due to waves and practically does not consume energy, the possible autonomy is six months, Alexey Blinkov, a representative of the developer (State Mortehuniversitet of St. Petersburg), told RIA Novosti.
The new device was presented at the Army-2021 forum in the cluster of the Russian Navy.
He noted that the device can move in any direction of the wave-oblique, transverse or longitudinal. In case there is no excitement, or it is so insignificant that it does not allow you to move, a solar battery and auxiliary engines are provided on the device.
"The main task of the wave glider is hydrometeorological support, that is, measuring temperature, pressure, salinity of water and wind direction - important parameters for the use of weapons and actions of groups of ships," the representative of the developer added.
He stressed that the device is able to work independently at almost any time.
Blinkov explained that this device can replace the traditional buoys thrown from the ship.
"Our glider can circle around a given point with a speed of up to two knots according to a set trajectory, and so on for six months," the developer's representative noted.
