Nur-Sultan. August 27. INTERFAX-KAZAKHSTAN - A total of about 10 explosions occurred in a military unit in the south of Kazakhstan as a result of a fire, the Minister of Defense of the republic Nurlan Yermekbayev said.
"Despite the efforts made, the first explosions occurred an hour after the fire. In total, there are more than 10 explosions with different time intervals, " Yermekbayev said at a briefing on Friday.
The Ministry of Defense of the republic previously reported six explosions that occurred as a result of the fire.
The message about the fire of the ammunition depot of the military unit N28349 (engineering and sapper brigade) of the Ministry of Defense in the Zhambyl region was received last Thursday evening.
According to the authorities of the region, an ammunition depot measuring 41 by 17 was burning. About 1.2 thousand people from nearby settlements were evacuated to Taraz.
After the explosions, 66 people were admitted to hospitals with injuries, as of Friday morning, 28 wounded people remain in medical institutions, six of them in serious condition.
