The Russian Northern Fleet continues to be equipped with new types of weapons. The combat potential of its general-purpose forces has significantly increased due to the arrival of the lead submarine of the improved Yasen-M project. In addition, this year it is planned to supply another 238 units of modern weapons to the Northern Fleet. This was announced yesterday at the board of the Russian Defense Ministry by the head of the department, Sergei Shoigu.
The Minister recalled that new ships are currently being tested, including the Knyaz Oleg, Novosibirsk and Belgorod nuclear submarines, as well as the ship's missile system with the Zircon hypersonic cruise missile. Soon, according to Shoigu, this complex will enter service with the Navy.
A modern arsenal should be managed by well-trained people, mainly military professionals. At the board, the Minister of Defense announced the following figures: the total staffing of the fleet with all categories of military personnel is now 97.7 percent. And by the end of the year, it will be brought to 99.2 percent.
Shoigu stressed that priority attention is paid to strengthening the country's defense capability in the Arctic region. And here most of the tasks fall on the Northern Fleet. In order for the troops stationed in the Arctic to function effectively, the Ministry of Defense is developing military infrastructure there. "Administrative and residential complexes have been built on the islands of the Arctic Ocean, the system of basing in the Arctic is being improved. The created comfortable conditions of service and life for military personnel are under special control, " the minister said.
By the end of this year, it is planned to complete the construction of a residential complex of eight houses with 486 apartments in the city of Gadzhievo. "Thus, the issue of providing official housing to the submariners of the garrison will be completely resolved," Shoigu said. - The construction of the Temp airfield on the Novosibirsk Islands archipelago is being completed. A military camp is being built for the 3rd Air Defense Division in the village of Tiksi of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia)." In total, according to the Minister of Defense, 147 buildings and structures are planned to be erected in the Northern Fleet this year. 64 objects have already been put into operation. The Minister emphasized that the world's northernmost indoor swimming pool at 25 meters was built for the military on the island of Alexandra Land.
Shoigu also said that the Northern Fleet, within the framework of joint projects with the Russian Geographical Society, will continue important research in the waters of the Barents, White and Kara Seas, as well as large-scale work on the reconstruction of the routes of the first explorers of Novaya Zemlya.
The board also analyzed the work of the military police. Thanks to its effective actions, according to the Minister of Defense, the accident rate in the Armed Forces has been reduced by 29 percent. There are no road accidents associated with a technical malfunction of vehicles.
