The Ministry of Strategic Industries of Ukraine is negotiating the localized production of Boeing T-7A Red Hawk combat training aircraft. The country again wanted to produce American aircraft. This was announced by the Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine — Minister for Strategic Industries Oleg Urusky in an interview with the publication "Ukrainian Tizhden".
According to the official, the Ukrainian side is negotiating with Boeing about the possibility of producing the T-7A aircraft at the Antonov state enterprise. The purpose of this is to obtain production technologies, Urusky added.
The Deputy Prime Minister noted that the Ukrainian side is also considering the production of more technologically sophisticated models, including the American F-15, and the Swedish Saab Gripen, "which the state can hardly afford."
Ukraine made its first attempt to produce Boeing aircraft in 2019. At that time, Antonov State Enterprise, Ukroboronprom state Corporation, and the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine were negotiating with Boeing about the assembly of a light training aircraft on the territory of Ukraine. Then the negotiations did not bring results.
The T-7A training aircraft is a joint development of Boeing and Saab. The aircraft is designed to replace the fleet of aging T-38 TCB. The first squadron of T-7A aircraft is planned to be commissioned no earlier than 2023.
