TSAMTO, August 25. As part of the scientific and business program of the MVTF "Army-2021", Alexey Shchekin, head of the Department for the development of small arms ammunition of TSNIITOCHMASH JSC, announced priority directions for the development of small arms ammunition.
The Central Research Institute of Precision Engineering (TSNIITOCHMASH, part of the Rostec State Corporation) has outlined two main directions for the development of small arms ammunition: the modernization of cartridges in existing calibers and the creation of cartridges with the development of new ballistic solutions.
The report of JSC "TSNIITOCHMASH" reflected the first direction of the development of small arms ammunition. According to the company's design engineers, the way to modernize cartridges of existing calibers can be divided into improving the main characteristics of the purpose of cartridges, namely: to improve the accuracy of shooting; to increase the armor-piercing effect and to improve the special action.
Presenting the already completed and current projects, the experts spoke about new directions for creating 9x19-mm and 9x21-mm pistol cartridges with armor-piercing bullets, with subsonic bullet speed, armor-piercing tracer bullets, as well as having an increased killing effect; 5.45-mm cartridges with an armor-piercing tracer bullet; 7.62-mm cartridges of the 1943 model with an armor-piercing bullet of increased penetration; 7.62-mm rifle cartridges with an armor-piercing tracer bullet; 12.7-mm sniper cartridges with an armor-piercing bullet of increased penetration, as well as with an armor-piercing incendiary bullet.
In addition, the report voiced the proposals of JSC "TSNIITOCHMASH" to create cartridges with new incendiary and tracer compositions.
