TSAMTO, August 25. The Tor-MF air defense system is capable of providing not only self-defense of the ship on which it is installed, but also air defense of a connection of ships or a naval base on an area of up to 500 square kilometers.
This is stated in the article by Roman Izmailov, published in the magazine "National Defense".
The main conclusion that the author of the article makes: the Navy is in dire need of such an air defense system.
According to R. Izmailov, since 2013, JSC IEMZ Kupol has initiated the development of the Tor-MF air defense system – a ship self-defense system unified by more than 80% with the Tor-M2 air defense system.
The tactical and technical task for the development of the ship-based air defense system "Tor-MF", unified with the land-based air defense system "Tor-M2", was approved by the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation in 2017. However, for a number of reasons, until now, the Ministry of Defense has not concluded a state contract with the developer of the Tor-MF air defense system (JSC IEMZ Kupol).
Despite this, JSC "IEMZ" Kupol " on an initiative basis, at its own expense, developed a draft design of the Tor-MF air defense system, which was successfully defended at the NTS of the enterprise with the participation of representatives of the Ministry of Defense in 2018. According to the results of the defense, a positive conclusion was issued by the Ministry of Defense for the draft design of the Tor-MF air defense system.
The unified ship-based anti-aircraft missile system "Tor-MF" is planned to be installed on ships to replace the outdated Osa-MA and Dagger air defense systems, as well as on newly built promising Navy ships.
"Tor-MF" can be placed on ships of small, medium and large displacement. The complex has a high probability of hitting targets, which is at least 0.9 with one missile, which is confirmed by the experience of conducting combat operations in Syria.
This air defense system provides effective protection of any objects from massive strikes of high-precision weapons (cruise missiles of any basing, anti-ship missiles flying at extremely low altitudes, planned and controlled aerial bombs, anti-radar missiles, multiple launch rocket systems, etc.), from strikes of tactical and carrier-based attack aircraft, helicopters, small-sized (including homemade) UAVs both straight-flying and actively maneuvering.
The complex simultaneously hits four targets with four missiles, has high noise immunity, is all-weather and all-day, maintaining full combat capability in all weather conditions.
As R. Izmailov notes, " until now, the Navy has not considered the possibility of providing collective air defense for connecting ships. With the advent of the "Tor" type air defense systems, including the "Tor-MF" air defense systems, which ensure the defeat of air targets at a parameter of up to 10 km, the task of providing collective air defense of ship formations becomes real. It is no secret that when planning air strikes on Navy ships, up to 100 cruise missiles are taken into account. It is time to draw conclusions."
