TSAMTO, August 24. The Israeli company IMI Systems will supply the Spanish Ground Forces with the latest 120-mm high-explosive tracer ammunition (HE-T) for the Leopard-2E and Leopard-2A4 main battle tanks.
According to the information Infodefensa.com, the cost of the contract signed by the parties in mid-August is 3.6 million euros. The agreement provides for the delivery of 636 shots until December 15 of this year.
Three companies participated in the tender held by the Economic Affairs Department of the Logistics Support Command (MALE): Israeli IMI, Spanish Fabrica de Municiones de Granada (FMG) and German Rheinmetall Waffe Munition.
The latter submitted an incomplete package of necessary documentation and was excluded from the number of participants in the competition at the first stage. The FMG proposal was found to be inconsistent with the requirements of the terms of reference. IMI offered ammunition at a cost of 4742 euros per unit without VAT. The declared shelf life of a projectile with an instantaneous impact fuse is 21 years.
According to the requirements, the ammunition must have a muzzle velocity of at least 920 m / s and an effective target range of at least 3000 m. They should also penetrate a double 200-mm reinforced concrete wall, be used at temperatures from -35 to +52 degrees. With and be compatible with the L44 and L55 trunks.
