MOSCOW, August 24. /TASS/. More than 1.5 thousand military personnel and about 400 pieces of equipment are involved in special exercises on material and technical support (MTO) of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, which will be held at 11 training grounds and seven airfields of the Western Military District. This was reported to journalists on Tuesday in the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.

According to the military department, the exercises that started today will be held under the leadership of the Deputy Minister of Defense of Russia, Army General Dmitry Bulgakov.

According to the ministry, the exercises will be held simultaneously at 11 training grounds located on the territory of the Leningrad, Yaroslavl, Nizhny Novgorod, Voronezh, Bryansk, Tver, Pskov and Moscow regions, and seven airfields will also be involved. "In total, about 1.5 thousand servicemen of the Western Military District, about 400 units of equipment will take part in the exercises," the ministry said.

"Within the framework of the exercises, practical tasks will be worked out for all types of logistical and technical support - the transportation of troops and military cargo, the construction of bridge crossings and the construction of railway bridges, automobile and ferry crossings, the restoration of weapons and military equipment in combat conditions, the organization of special types of technical and food support for types and types of troops," Bulgakov was quoted in the military department.

According to him, every serviceman will get real practice, increase or gain new knowledge, improve their skills and abilities to ensure the fulfillment of assigned tasks both in daily activities and in a combat situation. The Ministry of Defense also reported that during the marine phase of the exercises, practical actions of the Baltic Fleet forces will be worked out on the deployment and use of elements of the marine transshipment area and replenishment of stocks at sea.

The exercises are one of the activities of operational and combat training of military command bodies, formations and military units of all types of support for the armed forces and will become a control stage of checking readiness for the joint strategic exercises "West-2021".
