The President noted that the navy plays an important role in ensuring the security of the state
KUBINKA /Moscow region/, August 23. /TASS/. A strong and sovereign Russia needs a powerful, balanced navy. This was stated on Monday by Russian President Vladimir Putin at the ceremony of laying new warships and submarines for the navy, which takes place in the video conference mode.
"I have repeatedly said and I want to repeat again: a strong, sovereign Russia needs a powerful, balanced navy. Today, it plays a key role in the system of ensuring the security of the state, reliably protects our national interests, makes a significant contribution to strengthening strategic parity and international stability," the head of state stated.
Opening the ceremony, he congratulated all Russian shipbuilders and sailors on "a new important stage in the development of the navy" of the country. "Today, two multi-purpose ships of the near sea zone are being laid in Komsomolsk-on-Amur. And there are four submarines of the far sea zone on the Sevmash and the Admiralty Shipyards, " the president listed.
Putin noted that the Russian authorities cherish the "glorious traditions of the domestic fleet", strengthen the continuity of the country's indissoluble thousand-year history. "Therefore, two new nuclear-powered submarines will bear the names of Dmitry Donskoy and Prince Potemkin as a sign of deep respect for the memory and exploits of our outstanding ancestors," he explained.
Two large diesel submarines were named after Mozhaisk and Yakutsk. "And two multi-purpose ships have been assigned names that are traditional for the Russian fleet: "Grozny and "Buoy", " the head of state added.
He separately noted that all ships will be equipped with modern high-precision weapons, the latest means of control and communication. The effectiveness of most of them has been confirmed during the implementation of combat missions in Syria, Putin said.
Development prospects
The Russian authorities intend to further develop the country's naval potential, equip the fleet with the latest weapons and equipment.
"We will continue to develop Russia's naval potential, improve the fleet's basing system and infrastructure, equip ships with the latest weapons and equipment, work out complex combat training tasks during exercises and long-distance sea voyages, and demonstrate the Russian flag in strategically important areas of the world ocean," Putin stressed.
Such responsible and large-scale tasks, Putin continued, are due to Russia's geopolitical position and its role in world affairs. At the same time, the construction of a high-tech, combat-ready navy imposes increased requirements on domestic shipbuilders, the president stressed.
As part of the ceremony, which took place via videoconference, the head of state got in touch from Kubinka, near Moscow, where the Army-2021 forum opened in Patriot Park.
