Moscow. August 23. INTERFAX-The press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov said that the idea of Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu on the construction of new cities with millions of people in Siberia requires careful study, the authorities will deal with this issue.
"President Putin directly said that he was impressed by the initiative, but said that the idea is ambitious, large, so it needs to be very carefully and scrupulously discussed and prepared. This process will begin, " Peskov told reporters on Monday.
Answering the question whether the prospect of reviving existing Siberian cities that have fallen into disrepair was discussed, the press secretary of the head of state explained that "this is an ongoing process." According to him, regional, sectoral development plans and consistent work on the restoration of single-industry towns in Siberia are aimed at solving this problem.
