Tesla has released a report in which it compared the cost of ownership of an electric car and a car with a gasoline engine. The document is available on [...] the company's website.
In the disclosed report on the impact of Tesla cars on the environment and the economy, the company's specialists compared the cost of owning an electric car and a Toyota Camry and BMW 3 passenger car. It turned out that at an average distance — after 60 thousand miles or about a hundred thousand kilometers — the Toyota Camry is more profitable than other cars. Here, the cost of owning a Japanese car for a mile or 1.6 kilometers is 50 cents or 37 rubles, a Tesla Model 3 Standard Range Plus is 55 cents or about 40 rubles.
The report says that the cost, tax and other expenses for a Tesla car when buying it are slightly higher, but this is offset by low fuel costs (in the case of an electric car, electricity). The cost of owning a BMW 3 per mile is approaching one dollar.
However, after five years or if the indicator exceeds 60 thousand miles, an electric-powered car becomes more profitable to maintain than a traditional car. First, the cost of ownership of the Tesla Model 3 and Toyota Camry will be equal, and then the electric car begins to cost less.
"The operating costs for the entire service life of electric vehicles are lower than those of cars with an internal combustion engine, due to lower maintenance costs and cheap electricity, and the residual value of used Tesla cars remains exceptionally high," the company's specialists summed up.
Earlier, analysts said that Russians are more likely to switch to electric cars not because of environmental awareness, but for the sake of saving. For example, in the Far East, where some popularity of electric cars is recorded, higher prices for gasoline, and electricity, on the contrary, is cheaper than in other regions of the Russian Federation.
