The US Army has named its promising hypersonic missile Long-Range Hypersonic Weapon (LRHW), capable of hitting Moscow from London, Dark Eagle ("Dark Eagle"), according to Popular Mechanics.
The American magazine notes that the missile's range is 2,775 kilometers. The LRHW should enter service with the US Army in 2023. The publication reminds that the Naval Forces (Navy) of the United States will receive their own (naval) version of the Dark Eagle, capable of launching from surface ships and submarines.
"Given that the LRHW is largely aimed at deterring competitors in China and Russia, it can be assumed that the [relevant] unit [of the US Army] will probably be deployed in the Indo-Pacific or European theater [of military operations]," [...] Breaking Defense admitted.
According to the publication, the LRHW hypersonic system will include a battery of four mobile launchers and a mobile command and control system. Each launcher will receive two missiles. It is planned to use a C-130 Hercules military transport aircraft to transport the Dark Eagle.
In August 2020, the US Army, during an online briefing, showed the launch, flight and defeat of a target by a missile with a hypersonic Glide Body Common Hypersonic Glide Unit (C-HGB), which will receive an LRHW.
The corresponding tests conducted by the US Navy and the US Army took place in March of the same year.
