MOSCOW, 14 Aug-RIA Novosti. The air defense robot is planned to be created on the basis of the Uran-9 strike robotic complex, which is entering service with the Russian army, a source in the military-industrial complex told RIA Novosti.
The source said that " such robots can also be used in a fully automated mode to strengthen the capabilities of military air defense, in particular, in motorized rifle and tank units."
The main purpose of the air defense robot, the agency interlocutor added, will be the fight against aircraft and means of air attack flying at low and extremely low altitudes.
In the current version, the Uran-9 robots are armed with a 30-millimeter automatic cannon, anti-tank guided missiles "Ataka", as well as flamethrowers "Bumblebee". In January of this year, five complexes of Uran-9 attack robots, including 20 combat vehicles, were delivered to the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
The Igla-S and Verba missiles are used in portable anti-aircraft missile systems of the same name. The maximum range of these missiles is 6 kilometers, the maximum height of the affected air targets reaches 3.5 kilometers. These missiles, in particular, are used as part of the military anti-aircraft missile system "Gibka-S", installed on the chassis of the armored car "Tiger-M".
