Moscow. August 10. INTERFAX - The range of aircraft missiles "Whirlwind" should be increased to 12 km, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said.
On Tuesday, during the Single day of acceptance of military products, the acting general director of the Kalashnikov concern, Andrey Semenov, reported that within the framework of the seven-year contract, the next batch of guided missiles "Whirlwind-1"was delivered to the troops ahead of schedule.
For his part, Shoigu instructed to bring the range of these missiles "to 10, and then to 12 km".
As Interfax reported, the updated Whirlwind missile has already been successfully tested on the Ka-52 Alligator combat helicopter.
"As part of the improvements carried out, the probability of hitting the target during short-range launches was increased, stability in flight was increased. All these qualitative changes were achieved without changing the tactical and technical characteristics (TTX) of the missile. The standard tests confirmed the effectiveness of the improvements," the Kalashnikov press service said.
In addition, the company is working on adapting these missiles for use on Orion attack drones, as well as Mi-28NE and Mi-35P helicopters.
