Moscow. August 10. INTERFAX-The Defense Ministry has completed the construction of infrastructure for the placement of new strategic missiles in four strategic missile defense facilities, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said.
"Infrastructure facilities of the Strategic Missile Forces units have been built in Novosibirsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Kozelsk and Teykovo," Shoigu said during a single day of acceptance of military products.
According to him, the main forces of military builders were directed to the construction of special-purpose facilities "to accommodate new types of weapons and military equipment, primarily in the interests of arranging a three-component grouping of forces and means of nuclear deterrence."
The Minister added that since the beginning of the year, full-scale work has been launched to develop the airfield network, improve the Navy's basing system and develop infrastructure in the Arctic.
On November 19, 2019, Russian Deputy Defense Minister Timur Ivanov announced that work on the infrastructure for the deployment of new strategic missiles, including the new liquid-fueled Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile, will be completed in 2021.
"Measures are continuing to create the infrastructure of the Strategic Missile Forces for the deployment of the Yars, Sarmat, and Avangard missile systems with planned completion dates of 2019-2021," the information department of the Russian Defense Ministry quoted Ivanov as saying.
On April 21, in a message to the Federal Assembly, Putin said that in 2022, the first regiment armed with new Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missiles will take up duty.
It was reported that the RS-28 Sarmat ICBM will replace the world's most powerful strategic mine-based missile RS-20V Voevoda (according to the NATO classification-SS-18 Satan) in the Uzhur (Krasnoyarsk Territory) and Dombarovskaya (Orenburg Region) divisions of the Strategic Missile Forces.
Russian Deputy Defense Minister Alexey Krivoruchko said last December that flight tests of a new Sarmat strategic missile are being prepared.
Avangard is a new Russian strategic missile system with a hypersonic gliding cruise combat unit that develops a speed of about Mach 27 (Mach is the speed of sound). It was developed at the Reutov NPO of Mechanical Engineering (Tactical Missile Armament Corporation, KTRV).
