Moscow. August 10. INTERFAX - The new Russian multipurpose nuclear submarine "Kazan", handed over to the fleet in May, is capable of carrying hypersonic missiles" Zircon", said the commander of the 11th division of submarines of the Northern Fleet, Rear Admiral Alexander Zarenkov.

"A special feature of the project is the presence of universal launchers that allow you to place anti-ship missiles "Onyx", hypersonic missiles "Zircon" or cruise missiles "Caliber", which provides the possibility of numerous strikes on both surface and ground objects of the enemy, " Zarenkov said during a report to Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu on a single day of acceptance of military products.

The Rear admiral added that the submarine " differs from its predecessors in greater stealth, improved maneuvering systems, improved communication and sonar facilities, improved habitability conditions."

On May 7, the Kazan multi-purpose submarine, which is the main one in the Yasen-M project, was accepted into the combat structure of the Russian Navy.

In November 2020, Kazan performed a test launch of the Onyx anti-ship cruise missile (NPO Mashinostroeniya, Tactical Missile Armament Corporation)from the White Sea. Prior to that, Kazan fired a Kalibr cruise missile (Almaz-Antey Concern) at a distance of over 1000 kilometers at a target at the Chizha training ground in the Arkhangelsk Region in the White Sea.

The Yasen-M Project 885M multipurpose nuclear submarines are carriers of Onyx and/or Kalibr cruise missiles. Earlier it was reported about the possibility of equipping them with hypersonic missiles "Zircon".

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported on the tests of the sea hypersonic cruise missile "Zircon", which is planned to equip ships and submarines.

The launches of the " Zircon "in July 2021, in December, November and October 2020 were carried out by the frigate of the Northern Fleet"Admiral Gorshkov".

The head of the missile developer, the Tactical Missile Armament Corporation, Boris Obnosov, told reporters on Wednesday that work on the Zircon naval missile has been coordinated with the Russian Defense Ministry and is proceeding according to schedule.

Serial deliveries of the Zircon missile to the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation are planned for 2022, Deputy Defense Minister Alexey Krivoruchko said on January 29.
