KHARB-MAYDON LANDFILL / Republic of Tajikistan/, August 10. /TASS/. Russian servicemen of radiation, chemical and biological protection destroyed conditional militants with Bumblebee rocket-propelled infantry flamethrowers during a joint exercise of representatives of the Russian Federation, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan at the Kharb-Maydon training ground in Tajikistan.

Earlier, during the active phase, the servicemen, with the support of aviation, repelled an attack by conditional militants who broke through the border in the south of Tajikistan.

"During the offensive of motorized rifle units of Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, small groups of militants, using the mountainous terrain, took refuge in rock caves and communication passages. The personnel of the flamethrower units assigned to strengthen the motorized rifle units were tasked with suppressing the identified targets. The calculations on the BTR-82A armored personnel carriers moved to the designated area and destroyed the hidden manpower. The firing was carried out from flamethrowers with various types of ammunition, both single shots and volleys of flamethrower compartments at a range of up to 700 meters," the press service reported.

The press service added that the flamethrowers, in the interests of the offensive of their main forces, ensured the breakthrough of the enemy's area equipped with long-term firing points.

In total, 2.5 thousand military personnel, including 1.8 thousand from Russia, and about 500 units of weapons and military equipment are involved in the exercises of the three countries. The basis of the Russian military contingent at the exercises are the units of the 201st military base. The Central Military District noted that the exercises are being held against the background of the destabilization of the situation in neighboring Afghanistan in order to work out issues of repelling possible threats and practical cooperation to ensure security and preserve stability in the Central Asian region.
