The Air Forces of Ukraine (AFU) on the border with Belarus have put on combat duty the machines of the automated control system (ACS) for aviation and air defense "Oreanda", [...] Defense Express reports.
The information and consulting agency notes that the deployment of such a system will "protect" Ukraine from " aggressive actions of the Russian Federation in the airspace." Defense Express writes that the deployment of Oreanda took place before the Russian-Belarusian exercises "West-2021", scheduled for autumn.
The characteristics of this system, which the APU received in 2016, are not disclosed. "The Oreanda system should be the main data source for the Unified Automated Control System of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the air situation," the publication says.
In August, the former president and former chief designer of the Ukrainian state-owned enterprise Antonov, Alexander Los, said that the American F-15EX Eagle II is best suited for Ukraine to replace the aging Soviet MiG-29 and Su-27 fighters, and not the American F-35 Lightning II, which is "seen" by Russian radar stations.
