In the Soviet Union, until its collapse, they worked on aircraft that are unique even today. Among them, we can recall the M-67 high-altitude reconnaissance aircraft, which was created in the second half of the 80s.
Several variants were proposed, one of them - according to the aerodynamic scheme "flying wing", such a design is used on the American strategic bomber B-2.
It was planned that the main task of the "sixty-seventh" would be a long-term barrage at the borders with a special powerful optical detection complex that would allow detecting the launches of enemy ballistic missiles.
It is assumed that such an aircraft should have weighed about 100 tons and could have been in the air without refueling for up to 8 hours, then it would have had to return to the airfield or make an air refueling.
Apparently, the work was carried out with an eye to what was happening overseas, the notorious stealth program was talked and written about in the Soviet Union since the early 80s, so the M-67 would have been barely noticeable for enemy radars. Perhaps a bomber would have appeared on the scout base later, but the program was closed.
