The engines of the Nauka module turned on after docking with the ISS at the end of July due to problems with the control system algorithms, Dmitry Rogozin, the head of Roscosmos, said on August 7.
On August 4, Roscosmos noted that the abnormal activation of the engines of the multifunctional laboratory module "Nauka", docked to the International Space Station, was caused by the activation of the security system, which considered that the module was in free flight.
The Nauka module docked to the ISS on July 29. Russian cosmonaut Oleg Novitsky on board the ISS informed the specialists of the Moscow Mission Control Center (MCC)about the unplanned engines of the module. Soon the astronauts managed to turn them off.
According to the head of the flight of the Russian segment of the ISS, Vladimir Solovyov, the sudden activation of the engines of the Nauka module was due to a short-term software failure. This situation was quickly countered with the help of the engines of the Zvezda module, he added.
Representatives of the American segment of the ISS said that the ISS made almost one and a half turns during this incident, turning 45 degrees. At the same time, it was noted that the incident was not dangerous.
