Dubai. August 7. INTERFAX-The Iranian Foreign Ministry on Saturday rejected the accusations of the recent attack on the Mercer Street tanker in the Gulf of Oman, made the day before by the Group of Seven.
"We strongly condemn the groundless statement of the foreign Ministers of the Group of Seven, in which they made baseless accusations against the Islamic Republic of Iran," said Iranian Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh.
According to him, "for experts and those who know the history of the region, it is not news that such plots are being developed by the Zionist regime" (as the Israeli authorities are called in Iran).
The day before, the foreign ministers of the Group of Seven countries condemned the attack on the Mercer Street tanker in the Gulf of Oman, noting that all the data indicate that Iran is behind it. "We condemn the illegal attack on a merchant ship off the coast of Oman on July 29," the joint statement says.
"This was a deliberate and targeted attack, which is a violation of international law," it says.
According to the statement, "all available data clearly points to Iran, there is no justification for such an attack." According to the foreign ministers of the G7 states, Iran's actions "threaten international peace and security."
