The Northern Fleet has begun to build up the air defense system in the Arctic as part of the exercises
Moscow. August 4. INTERFAX-A detachment of Russian warships conducted a comprehensive exercise in the north-eastern part of the Atlantic Ocean during the command and staff training that started, the press service of the Northern Fleet (SF) reported on Wednesday.
"Today, in the designated areas of the North-Eastern Atlantic, a detachment of ships and vessels of the Northern Fleet, led by the missile cruiser Marshal Ustinov, conducted a comprehensive exercise to create access restriction areas, as well as to organize all types of defense of a detachment of ships at sea crossing, "the report says.
It is noted that during this exercise, the calculations of the missile and artillery combat units of the missile cruiser Marshal Ustinov and the large anti-submarine ship Vice Admiral Kulakov performed a complex of artillery firing at sea target positions.
According to the fleet, as part of the practical action plan, the deployment of nuclear submarines and naval forces of the Northern Fleet in the sea has begun, units of the army corps have moved to the areas of concentration.
"The Army of the Air Force and Air Defense has begun transferring forces to operational-based airfields in the Arctic and building up the air defense system in the Arctic direction," the SF reported.
Earlier on Wednesday, the SF reported that more than 30 ships and submarines and 10 thousand servicemen will be involved in the command and staff training. It will allow the fleet command to assess the degree of preparation of the Northern Fleet troops for participation in large-scale strategic exercises scheduled for autumn 2021.
