For the first time, the Russian Defense Ministry announced its plans to create a long-range hypersonic missile. It is planned to equip strategic aircraft with such powerful weapons.
The head of the Military Academy of the General Staff, Colonel-General Vladimir Zarudnitsky, told about the plans for the development of a new hypersonic weapon.
In particular, in an interview with the magazine for the top management of the Ministry of Defense "Military Thought", he stressed that the dominance in the aerospace sphere is an indispensable condition for the successful conduct of combat operations by land forces and naval groups. This superiority should be ensured not only by the sufficient number and quality of combat personnel of strike and fighter aircraft, but also by the use of effective methods of their actions.
According to him, such new and modernized models as the Tu-160M strategic missile carrier-bomber, the Kinzhal aviation hypersonic missile system are being developed and adopted for the Aerospace Forces of the Russian Federation. In addition, he spoke about plans to create high-precision long-range air-based weapons, in particular the X-95 hypersonic missile.
As a source in the Russian defense industry explained to RIA Novosti, the new missile is being developed for the Tu-22M3M and Tu-160M bombers, as well as the promising PAK DA long-range aviation complex.
