The United States will continue to support the armed and security forces of Afghanistan and carry out air strikes against the Taliban to demonstrate this. This was stated on Tuesday by Pentagon press Secretary John Kirby.
"We are watching the activity of the Taliban (banned in Russia) in the country, the security situation is still worrying. We recognize that we are carrying out and will continue to carry out airstrikes to support them, " Kirby said at a briefing broadcast live on the department's Twitter account.
Kirby explained that the strikes will continue to assist the Afghan partners, as they identify the Taliban's advance.
"It is important to recall that the Afghan Air Force (Air Force) itself is carrying out airstrikes to support its forces on the ground, they are doing more than we are," the head of the press service of the US Department of Defense said.
According to him, we are talking about consolidated efforts.
Earlier, on August 3, in an exclusive interview with Izvestia, the head of the Afghan Foreign Ministry, Mohammad Hanif Atmar, said that the country's government is ready to work together with representatives of the Taliban and make it an integral part of the government only if the movement renounces terrorism.
He also added that the official Afghan government welcomes the work of other countries with representatives of the movement, if these efforts are being made in an attempt to convince the militants of the need for peace and a political settlement.
On July 24, US President Joe Biden and Afghan leader Ashraf Ghani agreed that the Taliban offensive contradicts the movement's declared support for a political settlement in the country. The leaders expressed regret over the death of Afghans, looting, arson of buildings and destruction of infrastructure.
The US began withdrawing troops in early May and plans to complete it by the end of August. Washington will leave about 1 thousand military personnel in Kabul to protect diplomats and the airport.
