The Bonhomme Richard fire could become one of the most expensive sabotages in the history of the American armed forces. Yesterday, on July 30, on the website of the Naval Institute of the US Navy, information appeared that the US Navy had brought official charges against one of the crew members of the landing ship.
"The evidence gathered during the investigation is sufficient to conduct a preliminary hearing in accordance with due process within the military justice system," said Sean Robertson, a spokesman for the US 3rd Fleet.

The charges were brought against the same sailor who was questioned earlier by the Criminal Investigation Service of the Maritime Police. He was one of 160 crew members who were on the ship in 2020 when a fire broke out there.
The USS Bonhomme Richard was at the stage of conversion into a light aircraft carrier when a fire occurred, which significantly damaged the combat unit. In December last year, it was decided to write off the ship, the Ministry of Defense decided that the USS Bonhomme Richard would be scrapped.
