President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed the laws "On the foundations of national Resistance" and on increasing the number of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
He did this during a trip to the Zhytomyr region at a ceremony congratulating the military on the day of Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).
"I am signing this important law-on "national resistance", which provides for measures for resistance both on the territory of Ukraine and in uncontrolled territories, " the head of state said.
This is a powerful signal to everyone that our country will defend itself, will not allow the events of 2014, and that the protection of Ukraine for us is our national cause, TASS quotes Zelensky.
According to the document, the national resistance is a component of the comprehensive defense of Ukraine. It provides for a number of measures in peacetime and during a special period in Ukraine in order to maximize the involvement of citizens in actions to ensure military security, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the state, " deter and repel aggression and inflict unacceptable losses on the enemy, taking into account which, he will be forced to stop aggression against Ukraine."
The components of national resistance are territorial defense, the resistance movement and the preparation of Ukrainian citizens for national resistance.
The law will come into force on January 1, 2022.
