The National Guard of the Republic of Cyprus currently operates more than 80 T-80U and T-80UK. These main battle tanks are in service with the 20th Armored Brigade and have proven themselves well during long-term operation.
The local military appreciate them for their excellent speed characteristics, maneuverability, firepower and reliable armor protection.
The high combat readiness of the equipment is maintained due to the qualified operation of the material part. A 39-second video showing the maintenance of the GTD-1250 engine is posted on the video channel of the defense department of the island state.
During the work carried out in a special hangar, the "heart" of the tank was removed from the engine and transmission compartment using a special crane. It is interesting that there is a female serviceman in the repair team.
It took the specialists a relatively short time to carry out all the necessary manipulations, after which the monoblock took its usual place behind the tower.
It is usually claimed that gas turbines are afraid of dust. For example, in Cyprus, there are lots of areas with heavy dustiness, but the "eighties" serve there without any problems. Domestic designers have taken care of extremely thorough air purification, as a result, 1250-horsepower engines never suffocate on marches and during intensive maneuvering at landfills.
Large fuel savings are facilitated by the presence of small-sized auxiliary power units on such Russian-made tanks, operating in positions and in regular parking lots, at a time when the main power plant is not functioning.
During the combat training, the Cypriot guards also regularly conduct live firing with guided ammunition, while at such classes targets located at sea are hit.
