Taiwan continues to strengthen its fleet. Today, on July 28, the press service of the Ministry of Defense of Taiwan reported that the Navy of the Republic of China received the first serial corvette of the Tuo Chiang type.
The ceremony was held at the Lungteh Shipbuilding shipyard in Suao. The ship was named Ta Jiang, tail number 619 and became the first serial corvette of the Tuo Chiang type. Built in 2014, the Tuo Chiang 618 corvette remained in the status of a prototype and has a more modest armament in comparison with serial ships.

In total, it is planned to build 11 serial corvettes of the Tuo Chiang project for the Navy of the Republic of China. Each of them will have subsonic anti-ship missiles Hsiung Feng II (HF-2), and supersonic medium-range missiles Hsiung Feng III (HF-3). In addition, each ship will receive a 76-mm artillery mount, a Phalanx melee weapons system (CIWS) and other weapons.
Tuo Chiang-type corvettes are relatively small representatives of this class of ships. The displacement of each of them is 685 tons, the length of the hull is about 60 m. The hull in the form of a catamaran allows the corvette to reach a speed of 43 knots, and high efficiency provides a range of 1800 miles. Patrol ships of the Anping type have a similar design.
