The boats will serve in the Baltic Fleet
KAZAN, July 23. /TASS/. Two serial special-purpose boats were launched at the Zelenodolsk Shipyard named after A.M. Gorky.
"On the eve of our holiday, we are launching two anti-sabotage boats of the project 21980. The boats of this project were built at the Zelenodolsk Plant, and this plant has already built 10 units that carry combat tasks and ensure the safety of various events," said Ilyas Shigapov, head of the Shipbuilding Department of the Main Command of the Russian Navy.
According to him, the boats will serve in the Baltic Fleet.
The boats were developed at the Vympel design Bureau from Nizhny Novgorod. The vessels are designed to protect the water areas of the naval bases of the Russian Navy. Modern equipment and high seaworthiness characteristics allow them to solve a wide range of tasks that are usually assigned to ships of much larger displacement.
Boats of this project have been built at the Zelenodolsk plant since 2008. To date, 10 boats are on combat duty as part of the Baltic, Black Sea fleets and the Caspian Flotilla. The boats also participated in ensuring the security of such events as the Winter Olympics in Sochi, the World Cup and the Confederations Cup in football. For several years in a row, on the Day of the Navy, the lead boat of the project 21980 "Nakhimovets" traditionally opens the dynamic part of the display of the Main Naval Parade in St. Petersburg.
