In the Moscow region, at the Golovenki training ground, servicemen of the Kantemirovsky Tank Division of the Red Banner Army conducted live firing of T-80U tanks using a "tank carousel" - a method of increased rate of fire. This was reported in the press service of the Western Military District on Friday, July 23.
It is noted that the shooting took place as part of a special tactical exercise.
"According to the plan of the exercise, the tankers were in an ambush, their task was to destroy a column of heavily armored vehicles of a conditional enemy on the march. When the imaginary enemy approached the target distance, the crews began to destroy the manpower and armored vehicles of the imaginary enemy with high-explosive and armor-piercing shells of a tank gun, " the report says.
Tank crews supported motorized rifle units with dense fire from 30-mm guns of BMP-2 infantry fighting vehicles.
According to the report, the tankers fired from the 125-mm guns of the T-80U tanks 400 times.
It is noted that the peculiarity of the execution of firing by the "tank carousel" method is the paired, alternate firing of tanks. This tactic allows you to conduct continuous fire and compensate for the reloading time.
In total, more than 400 military personnel and more than 150 units of weapons, military and special equipment of the tank association of the Western military District (ZVO) were involved in the tactical and special exercise.
Earlier, on July 23, it was reported that Russia and Tajikistan will hold exercises against the background of the complication of the situation in Afghanistan. Tajikistan initiated the largest check of the combat readiness of its law enforcement agencies in the country's history. It will be held at the training ground in the Khatlon region from August 5 to 10.
