During his visit to the International Aviation and Space Salon, Russian President Vladimir Putin examined a model of a new light tactical single-engine aircraft in the Sukhoi pavilion. The model of the fighter on Tuesday, July 20, was presented by the head of the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) Yuri Slyusar.
During the presentation, Slyusar told the president about the high technical characteristics of the machine. The aircraft is distinguished from its predecessors by the options of "adaptation to the needs of a specific customer, low cost of operation and wide combat capabilities".
As specified in Rostec, the light fighter is called Checkmate, there have been no analogues of such an aircraft in Russia yet.
"It combines innovative solutions and technologies, including support for the pilot's work by means of artificial intelligence, as well as proven solutions that have already proven themselves in practice," the state corporation noted.
The new fifth-generation fighter has low visibility and high flight performance characteristics.
The Russian leader is accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov, Head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov and President of the Union of Aircraft Manufacturers of Russia Boris Aleshin.
Earlier on Tuesday, Putin's press secretary Dmitry Peskov said that the president will be presented with a single-engine fighter of the 5th generation at MAKS-2021. On July 19, Rostec showed the contours of a fundamentally new fighter in a video.
Putin, opening the International Aerospace Salon (MAKS) in Zhukovsky, he noted that aviation will develop in the direction of drones, artificial intelligence and robotic complexes.
It is known that the aircraft is capable of developing supersonic speed and has low radar visibility.
On July 20, the MAKS-2021 International Aerospace Salon opened in Zhukovsky, near Moscow. During the presidential screening, on the first day, viewers will be able to see the flights of Ka-226 and Mi-171 helicopters, Su-57 and MiG-35 fighters and an experienced passenger aircraft MS-21-310.
