TSAMTO, July 20. The Ukrainian state enterprise "Ukroboronservice", which is part of the state concern" Ukroboronprom", has not yet fulfilled the contract concluded in 2014 for the supply of 50 modernized T-64BV-1 tanks by the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
As reported by Armyrecognition.com after the beginning of the conflict in the Donbass in 2014, the first 10 T-64BV-1 tanks were transferred to the Azov special forces regiment, 25 units were delivered to the DRC in 2016, and the remaining 15 vehicles are still reportedly at the tank factory.
Recall that the Ukrainian state enterprise "Ukroboronservice" signed a contract with a foreign customer for the overhaul and supply of 50 T-64BV-1 main battle tanks in February 2014. According to the management of Ukroboronprom, " this agreement could pave the way for further export sales of this tank."
Given that the customer was not officially disclosed, it was assumed that the buyer is one of the countries of the African continent, including the DRC. In September 2014, a message was published about the transfer of a batch of modernized T-64BV-1 tanks to parts of the National Guard of Ukraine for use in the Donbass. This led to new assumptions about the cancellation of the contract due to the need to equip the AFU to participate in combat operations in eastern Ukraine.
Judging by the published data on the deliveries of VIVT abroad carried out by Ukraine in 2016, which were submitted to the UN Register of Conventional Weapons, the Democratic Republic of the Congo still received 25 T-64BV-1 tanks. Thus, the DRC became the first foreign buyer of the T-64BV-1. It became clear that the agreement was not canceled, but the project is still not completed.
According to the Ukroboronprom Group of Companies, the T-64BV-1 is equipped with the Kontakt-1 dynamic protection system, the modified 1A33 fire control system, and the 9K112-1 Cobra guided weapons system.
