The United States is unlikely to narrow the gap in the field of hypersonic weapons with Russia and China in the coming years, which may lead to potential risks for the former in the future, writes the American magazine The National Interest, citing a report prepared by the Congressional Research Service.
The document states that Moscow and Beijing are creating strategic hypersonic weapons, while the United States is working mainly on tactical weapons. According to the report, the development of the latter is much more difficult than the first, and therefore the United States has to increase funding for hypersonic programs to reduce the gap with the current capabilities of its potential opponents.
According to the Congressional Research Service, American specialists need to determine the conditions under which it is necessary to use hypersonic weapons, and the consequences of such actions. As noted in the document, such an approach would make it possible to determine the optimal budget parameters of the relevant programs.
According to the document, the United States currently does not have the means to counter Russian and Chinese hypersonic threats.
In June, the US Missile Defense Agency presented an animation with the detection, tracking and interception of a planning hypersonic block of an enemy missile.
In April, The Drive reported that the US Navy planned to test the Standard Missile 6 (SM-6) version of the Block IB, which in the future may become the" killer "of the Russian "Avangard".
