TSAMTO, July 15. On July 13, the ceremony of laying the keel of the K-130 class corvette intended for the German Navy took place at the Wolgast Peene shipyard (a division of the Lurssen-Group) in Wolgast.
Due to the restrictions associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of participants in the event was limited.
(F268) Augsburg will be the ninth ship of the Braunschweig class and the fourth corvette of the second series (Batch 2).
As reported by TSAMTO, the main tasks of the K130 class corvettes ("Braunschweig") are the fight against surface ships and enemy air attack means, the defeat of ground targets in the coastal zone, the escort of ships, the control of the coastal water area, the state border and the exclusive economic zone.
Currently, the German Navy is armed with five K-130 class corvettes of the first series, delivered from 2008 to 2013.
On September 12, 2017, the German Federal Armament, Information Technology and Maintenance Agency (BAAINBw) signed a contract for the construction of five second-series corvettes with the ARGE K-130 consortium, which included Lurssen Werft GmbH & Co. (main contractor), ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems GmbH and German Naval Yards (GNY). The cost of the order is estimated at 2.5 billion rubles. euro.
The cutting ceremony of the first steel for the construction of the K-130 lead corvette of the second series, (F-265) "Cologne", took place on February 7, 2019, and on April 26, 2019, the keel laying ceremony of this ship was held. The keel laying of the second corvette, (F-266) "Emden", took place on January 30, 2020, and the third, (F267) "Karlsruhe", – on October 6, 2020.
As planned, deliveries of the second series of ships for the German Navy will begin in 2022 and will be completed by 2026.
As part of the agreement, Lurssen Werft GmbH & Co. is building the bow sections of two ships in Bremen, three more will be built in Kiel-Gaarden by German Naval Yards Kiel GmbH. The Wolgaster Peene facility in Wolgast, which is also owned by Lurssen, will build the aft sections of all five ships. All five corvettes will be assembled, equipped and launched at Blohm + Voss in Hamburg. They will also leave Hamburg for the tests.
Judging by the first photos of the corvettes of the second series, the 90-meter ships will receive the latest version of the 76-mm artillery installation of the Leonardo group (with unobtrusive protection).
The delivered K-130 corvettes of the first series are armed with four RBS-15 PKR, two RAM SAMs, 76/62-mm AU Oto Melara and two 27-mm AU MLG-27 with remote control from Rheinmetall. The corvettes are equipped with a helipad.
In September 2020, the Swedish company Saab announced the receipt of an order worth about 1.7 billion. Swedish kronor (about $ 194 million) for the supply of RBS-15 RCC to equip the K-130 corvettes of the second series of the German Navy. Deliveries are planned for 2022-2026.
