MOSCOW, July 10-RIA Novosti. State tests of Russian hypersonic missiles "Zircon" will begin before the end of July by firing from the frigate of the project 22350 "Admiral Gorshkov", a source in the military-industrial complex told RIA Novosti.
This shooting will be the first launch of the Zircon missiles in 2021 and the fourth launch of all time from the Admiral Gorshkov.
Earlier, other sources of RIA Novosti in the defense industry reported that the first launch of the Zircon in 2021 is planned to be carried out as part of state tests from the Admiral Gorshkov in the summer. The completion of state tests of the missile system is scheduled for the same year.
In 2020, according to the Ministry of Defense, the Admiral Gorshkov frigate carried out three missile launches, two at sea targets and one at a ground target.
It is assumed that the "Zircons" will be armed with frigates of the project 22350, the latest multi-purpose submarines of the project 885M "Yasen-M", as well as the missile cruiser "Admiral Nakhimov" and the submarine "Irkutsk", which is under modernization.
The Zircon is the world's first hypersonic cruise missile capable of performing a long aerodynamic flight with maneuvering in dense layers of the atmosphere using its own engine thrust throughout the route. The maximum speed of the rocket reaches about nine speeds of sound (about 2.65 kilometers per second at an altitude of 20 kilometers, or more than 10 thousand kilometers per hour). The maximum range of the missile is stated to be a thousand kilometers.
