This year, Ukraine may buy a second-hand icebreaker from the UK, which is planned to be used for expeditions to Antarctica, Defense Express reports, referring to the statement of the director of the National Antarctic Research Center Yevgeny Diky.
We are talking about a used British ship James Clark Ross, which London is ready to sell to Kiev for five million dollars.
According to the information and consulting agency, the relevant decision, which must be approved by the Verkhovna Rada, was made by the government of the country.
Defense Express assures that Ukraine, in case of acquiring an icebreaker, can use it for 20-25 years.
The agency notes that James Clark Ross was launched in 1990, and "the price of five million dollars is just the tip of the iceberg, especially in the expenditure part."
According to Defense Express, the icebreaker is currently located in the Falkland Islands.
In July, the agency wrote that Russia had transferred an Orion drone to the Crimea, which is inferior in its capabilities to the Ukrainian Bayraktar TV2 of Turkish production.
