The South Korean company Hyundai Rotem has handed over two multi-purpose ground wheeled robots to the army for testing. According to Aju Business Daily, these are the first unmanned vehicles that will be used in the South Korean army. The military tests will last six months.
In South Korea, from 2024 [...], mixed units of robots and people should appear. The military believes that this will support the combat power of the armed forces against the background of a decrease in the population and a decrease in the birth rate. Ground robots in such units will conduct combat reconnaissance, transport ammunition and provisions, and perform other tasks.
The Defense Procurement Programs Administration (DAPA) of South Korea ordered two multi-purpose ground wheeled robots from Hyundai Rotem in November last year. These are fully electric vehicles with a wheel formula of 6×6 and a weight of less than 1800 kilograms. Their length is 2.4 meters, width-1.7 meters, and height-0.9 meters.
The robots can move at speeds of up to 30 kilometers per hour on the highway and up to 10 kilometers per hour on rough terrain. At a speed of 5 kilometers per hour, their batteries will last for six hours of travel. Each robot can carry 600 kilograms of payload and is armed with a remotely controlled combat module.
Hyundai Rotem on July 7 announced the transfer of two multi-purpose ground wheeled robots to the South Korean army for six-month tests. These are the first unmanned vehicles that the military will take into operation. They are suitable for various tasks, including reconnaissance missions, transportation of cargo and ammunition, and evacuation of the wounded.
The South Korean military is also interested in developing other ground-based robots. Earlier we wrote about the intelligence intelligence UGV, which is created by Hanwha Defense by order of the Department of Defense Procurement Programs.
