TSAMTO, July 8. The Israeli company Israel Shipyards announced the signing of a contract for the supply of four Shaldag-class patrol boats Mk.5 in a configuration adapted to the requirements of the Israeli Navy command.
At the moment, the Israeli Navy is already armed with the company-built boats of the Shaldag Mk.3 version, the URO corvettes of the Saar-5 and Saar-4.5 class.
Made of aluminum alloy, the Shaldag Mk. 5 is the largest boat of the Shaldag family. It can be used to ensure maritime security, protect the exclusive economic zone (EEZ) and territorial waters. The Mk.5 differs from the previously developed Shaldag boats by an enlarged superstructure and a closed bridge. The length of the boat is 32.65 m, the maximum width is 6.2 m, the displacement is 95 tons, the crew is 14 people. The power plant includes two MTU 16 V 4000 diesel engines and water jet propellers. The maximum speed is 40 knots, the cruising range at a speed of 12 knots is 1000 nautical miles, the autonomy is 6 days.
The Shaldag Mk. 5 can be armed with various systems, including the remote-controlled Typhoon weapon module (DUMV) developed by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems with a 20-or 25-mm automatic cannon, 12.7-mm or 7.62-mm machine guns, as well as short-range anti-ship missiles for hitting targets at sea or on the coast.
