The Soviet mobile operational-tactical missile system of front-line subordination "Temp-S" was adopted at the end of December 1965.
Serial production began in 1966. A total of 1200 units were manufactured. On November 7, 1967, this formidable weapon was first shown at the anniversary military parade.
People far from military affairs sometimes confused them with the more famous 9K72 " Elbrus "(NATO designation" Scud"), although they had only a four-axle MAZ-543 all-terrain vehicle in common. At the same time, the Temp-S had a two-stage solid-fuel ballistic missile with a nuclear warhead of 0.5 Mt and a flight range of 900 km.

This weapon had phenomenal reliability, more than 420 launches carried out over a quarter of a century of operation went without failures, only three were emergency.
Initially, these "nuclear sledgehammers" were delivered to the strategic missile forces, but after the aggravation of relations with China, they were deployed in the areas bordering this country and after some time transferred to the military districts.
After the deployment of American Tomahawks and Pershing-2s in Europe, armed Temp-C brigades were deployed in the GDR and Czechoslovakia.
When the Treaty on the Elimination of Medium-and Short-Range Missiles was signed, these complexes were destroyed. Currently, they can only be seen in museums.
