INTERFAX-It is planned to attract more than 20 vessels of the auxiliary fleet to solve the tasks of providing ships participating in the Main Naval Parade in St. Petersburg, the Department of Information and Mass Communications of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported on Monday.
"To solve the tasks of towing and mooring operations, replenishing fuel and fresh water supplies of ships taking part in training and holding the Main Naval Parade in St. Petersburg and Kronstadt, it is planned to attract 20 tugboats and tankers of various classes from among the support vessels of the Northern and Baltic Fleets," the message says.
It is noted that this decision was made at a working meeting that was held under the leadership of the commander-in-chief of the Russian Navy, Admiral Nikolai Evmenov.
"Earlier, the forces of the search and rescue service of the Navy, the Leningrad Naval Base carried out work on diving inspection and cleaning, if necessary, the parking places of the ships participating in the Parade on the roads of Kronstadt and Neva," the department noted.
Earlier, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that 39 ships and boats, seven submarines, 48 aircraft and more than four thousand military personnel will be involved in the GVMP. For the first time, ships of the Border Department of the FSB of Russia are involved in the event, the minister said on May 31 at a meeting of the board of the military department.
Shoigu stressed that during the parade events "all measures for the prevention of coronavirus infection will be observed."
The Minister noted that the fifth GVMP in the history of Russia will be held on behalf of Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to tradition, it will be held on the Day of the Navy on July 25 in St. Petersburg. The anniversary parade will be held in the year of the 325th anniversary of the Russian Fleet. Naval parades will also be held in Severomorsk, Baltiysk, Sevastopol, Kaspiysk, Vladivostok and Tartus (Syria).
