In Beijing, 15 fifth-generation J-20 fighter jets were immediately lifted into the air at Tiananmen Square during a festive event dedicated to the centenary of the Communist Party of China, the South China Morning Post reports.
The newspaper notes that most of these stealth aircraft were shown to the general public for the first time. The publication reminds that China is increasing production of the J-20, which is facing the problem of developing an engine.
The newspaper admits that Beijing currently has about 150 J-20 units.
It is noted that during the 2019 parade, only five J-20s flew in the sky over Tiananmen.
In July of the same year, the publication of the Chinese portal Global Times called the fifth-generation fighters [...] the American F-22 Raptor and F-35 Lightning II, as well as the Chinese J-20, but not the Russian Su-57. The publication aimed at the international community, which is supervised by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, cited the opinion of Yang Wei, Deputy Director for Science and Technology of the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC), general designer of the J-20.
